Sun Netra X4270 ILOM restoring. - Netra Servers

Hi all.Yesterday I was updating ILOM and BIOS on my Netras to version ILOM 3.0.16.25.b r83416. I know that is not the last one.  Everything was fine till one server stop to boot after update. It fall into ILOM loop rebooting. Log attached. (bootlog.txt)  After that I tried to restore ILOM through preboot menu. Preboot> net flash 10.63.211.200 ilom.X4270-3.0.16.25.b-r83416.pkgUsing faradaynic#0 devicehost 10.63.211.200 is aliveDownloading ILOM image to scratch RAM (load_addr = 0x2000000)...Using faradaynic#0 deviceTFTP from server 10.63.211.200; our IP address is 10.63.211.55Filename 'ilom.X4270-3.0.16.25.b-r83416.pkg'.Load address: 0x2000000Loading: ##...##doneBytes transferred = 13904223 (d4295f hex)Press any key to abort before erasing begins.pbmenu: Can't find package header; downloaded file is not an ILOM image.  The service manual for Netras says that restoring possible only from Gui or CLI. But I have no access to both.In Sun Fire X4270 service manual there is a note that I should use .flash file for restoring ILOM and BIOS from preboot. On MOS there is no any .flash files for Netra X4270.  Only for Sun Fire. My questing is: can I flash .flash file for Sun Fire to my Nerta. And there can I get correct file if not. Thanks a lot. Here

I have a sunray 270 connected into T1000 unix server , to open remote access into windows 2003 server T2000 , my problem its on USB , i cant attache any USB device on the terminal only the Keyboard and Mouse work, I saw that USB redirect not work on Win2003 , i switch into windows XP SP2 , the USB redirtor software running and its show near the Clock on taskbar. and I apply the command to enable and find the status of USB service on unix
# utdevadm
# utdevadm -e -s usb
also on http://ip:1660 , the USB Enabled
Can I know how to add a USB driver on T1000, or the 270 its need to upgrade or special patched to make its work ?
Thanks to all
1. What kind of USB device did you try?
2. What firmware version is your Sun Ray running.
You need at least firmware version 4.2_77, but preferably the one from the latest SRSS 4.2 patch.
To find out the firmware version of a Sun Ray you can use one of the following methods:
- CLI to see version info for all connected units: utfwload -a
- CLI to see version infor for one connected unit: utdesktop -p <MAC address>
- Web GUI: view Desktop Properties for a unit
- On the Sun Ray: press STOP+V or Ctrl+Pause+V

Fixed typo: STOP+A -> STOP+V
Dear Sir
I check the SW ver. on both it was old , i did download to

it ask me about the new ver of java , i did download jre-6u21-solaris-sparc.sh
now its ask me to install Sun managmet , downlload file sun_mc-4_0-ga.zip and setup it , at final its ask me on security code and i stop the installation.
now when i use ./utinstall to start setup i got erorr below

For the web GUI, have you tried using a different browser?
Also, while the blade is running (say, at the BIOS setup screen), pull the blade out and wait a few seconds, then plug it back in. I've noticed doing this will usually help with problems I have with upgrading firmware.
Once plugged back in, try going to maintenance mode again and uploading firmware, etc.
Good luck!
Hi Haramee.
Could you please tell me if you solved this problem? How did you do that?
I have the same problem right now and I can't find the solution.
Thanks in advance.
I solved it via a usb boot ... it took a long time and it was very very ugly ... Sun should take a lesson from HP in the bootable media department. HP at least uses a linux based boot disk and not DOS ...
Hi, I ran into this exact problem and switching browsers helped. I was using opensolaris with firefox originally and then switched over to a pc running windows and IE. The IE browser helped and the second step of going from tansitional elom to the ilom file worked this time.

X6250, X6220 and T6300 problems ...

Hi all,
I just recived a brand new SB6000 chasis with five blades:
BL0 = X6250
BL1 = X6220
BL2 = T6300
BL3 = T6320
BL4 = T6320
.... and I have some problems. Let me explain, fist thing I did after plug-in the chasis was to upgrade the chasis firmware to ilom.6000-2.0.3.10-r36968.ima. This went OK and looks like everything works fine for the CHASIS ILOM.
My next step was determine the firmware level of the blades and try to upgrade to the latest if necesary.
Fist issue:
- It's imposible to access SP of BL1 ... I cannot set the ip address for this blade. And when I try to access doing: cd /CH/BL1/SP/cli; start ; the following message appears:
-> start
Are you sure you want to start /CH/BL1/SP/cli (y/n)? y
start: Connecting to /CH/BL1/SP/cli as user root
start: Change the "user" property to connect as a different user
ssh: : Temporary failure in name resolution+
start: The session with /CH/BL1/SP/cli has ended.+
Any ideas?, Its because I cannot set the IP address?
Second issue:
On blade number two (BL2, the T6300 one), its possible to access the SP by ssh, but when I try to login always says the password its incorrect, I have tried user=admin pass=<blanck> as the manual states but it doesn't work. Any other combination that I should try? ... It's there a way to access without user/pass authorization?
Well at this point I just have three more blades to play with. The X6250 one need a firmware upgrade because was in the ELOM and not in the ILOM. So I started the process to upgrade. I did every thing with de Web interface, and aparently all worked fine. So I started a remote redirection from the new ILOM web interface to start the OS installation, but the screen its totally black, no BIOS messages. I restart the blade several times and no changes at all. So I decided that something went wrong during the firmware upgrade, and to fix I thought that I could try a ILOM-to-ILOM firmware upgrade with the load command, just to set up the same version of ILOM but with the ILOM-to-ILOM process, and this is the result:

I tried to repeat the operation serveral times, but didn't work either.
What else could I try?
Not all went wrong the two T6320 blades works fine and the firmware upgrade was fine too.
Hi,
If this is a new config, then its better to open a proper service request with Sun, then asking this on a forum.
They will help you better and then you have a direct line with an engineer

This definitely sounds like a problem with having an incorrect IP address. What does the "network" portion under SP show? How are you trying to set the IP? Try this if you haven't:
set pendingipaddress=YOUR.IP
set pendingipgateway=YOUR.GATEWAY.IP
set pendingipnetmask=YOUR.NETMASK.IPconfigure what ever else you need to as far as network settings, then:
set commitpending=true"show network" again and see if the settings stick. If not, try ejecting and re-inserting the blade while it is powered on and try again.
As for your second problem, I always thought the default credentials were "root" and "changeme" ... I could be wrong. Let us know what happens with this issue. I'm curious.
I don't know why I cannot modify this blade SP network conf. from the chasis CMM. Right now this is the conf.
-> show /CH/BL1/SP/network
/CH/BL1/SP/network

        macaddress = (none)
        pendingipaddress = (none)
        pendingipdiscovery = dhcp
        pendingipgateway = (none)
        pendingipnetmask = (none)I have tried to modify this with "set pending...." commands but it doesn't change. It doesn't acquiere the network conf. by dhcp either, other blades on the same chasis have no problem with this.
Well, some good news at last. I think I solve the problem with BL0.
I loaded an older firmware with load command, at end it yeild the same error about not being able to write the BIOS, but rest of the firmware was loaded. Then I try to load back the actual one ..... and surprise this time the installation finished OK.

T6300 cannot be setup initially from the CMM... You have to go in through the serial port via the front dongle, by design because its ALOM not ILOM. You can't do a 'start cli' because its invoking ssh to the 'admin' account which is not allowed by ssh as it has no password until you've gone in through the serial port to set one. After that it should be modifiable from CMM if you have current firmware on both CMM and T6300 - there have been a series of bugs with this though and there still are problems.
x6250 suggest if you did upgrade from ELOM to ILOM that you do a hot reseat of the blade, and then upgrade its firmware to latest again and hot reseat again.
Thanks for your answer, I will try it after Christmas. I'm not on the same site as the blades.
Good news, all the blades are working now.
BL1 the X6220 one was easy, just connect with the dongle cable and the DB9 (serial), setup network conf, for SP and everything works fine.
For BL2 the T6300 one (the oner asking me for a password I didnt knew) was tricky ... to reset the I need to connect directly to the SP by serial cable. So I plug the dongle cable, use the DB9 conector (marked as serial in the manual) and ... nothing at all ... no way to get any response from SP by serial cable. So I called Sun's Support Service. This morning came the engineer and surprise ... he use de rj-45 in the dongle cable to setup the serial cable, not the db9 conector.
With the rj-45 the serial conection works OK and we were able to reset the SP admin's password.
Wonder why Sun is so consistent with their implementation of SP/ALOM/ILOM technologies?
I nearly pulled all my hair out because of the "difference" between how you access the T62xx and T63xx SPs
All recent and future blades are ILOM based as is the CMM. The T6300 is an older blade and the first in its class (CMT SPARC) and had the older ALOM SP. So moving forward you should see ILOM everywhere except the T6300 giving you a consistent interface. (We have included an ALOM compatibility mode on the T6320/T6340 ILOM and their rack mounted equivalents however if you don't have ALOM legacy integration I would recommend using the standard ILOM interfaces and CLI).

Solaris10 x86 network install fails

Hello,
I am experiencing issues with the Solaris10 x86 network install. I want to install it on a DELL1950 server, this server is in the HCL so it should give no issues. When I install this server trough CD or DVD this works perfectly but the network install fails.
What happens is the following: server pxe boots and loads grub correctly with the multiboot kernel:
kernel /solarisx86/multiboot kernel/unix -v -m verbose -B install_media=x.x.x.x:/solaris/solaris10x86/
Solaris boots and I get to the menu where you can choose for the interactive install, console, etc...
I pick 5 for driver updates and install the broadcom driver and megasas driver.
I wait for the X session to timeout and continue on console configuration
Installation continues and I can start filling in network configuration, it asks for Kerberos and nfs, etc...
The last step is the question do you want to enable remote services? when you press F2 then it finish identifying the system and needs to jump to the part were it asks for Standard or Flash install, however it jumps to a shell with the following error:
solaris installation program already running
and there it stops, this error comes because of a check in the install_solaris script which checks for a lockfile in the /tmp directory, however deleting this and trying to invoke install_solaris doesn't work
also after a while all install processes were killed or just stopped.
If i choose to continue in the X session I can do the installation but when copying the files it always hangs at 97% (full install+OEM) on the following packet:
SUNWgnome-terminal-devel
I already downloaded the dvd iso again checked md5sums and tried again, nothing helps.
Can anybody help me?
Thanks and best regards
nobody?
