thanks for your time.

Jeff,
Can you tell us the changes that were made to the system before you started observing this
problem ? Is this a new installation or an old one which has been working for some time ?
Also enable message debugging and restart the server under debug mode.
(ipserver start debug). Tell us if the server startup was successful and if any errors
are reported on your command line window.
Try accessing the portal again. Let us know what errors are recorded in your logs.
Thanks!
Satish

i am finding "page cannot be displayed error not frequently.although application is running good but if user put a page on hold for few seconds and starts working again on it then this comes.

Rare error message when trying to attach to a process

Hi,
I am using a script (launched in crontab every 5 minutes), which attaches to a process, and launch a JMX command, to check that it is running fine. Any issue will kill the process and restart it.
Every 7-10 days, I get the following error message :
java.io.IOException: Unable to enqueue command to target VM: Resource failure
at sun.tools.attach.SolarisVirtualMachine.enqueue(Native Method)
at sun.tools.attach.SolarisVirtualMachine.execute(SolarisVirtualMachine.java:107)

at sun.tools.attach.HotSpotVirtualMachine.getAgentProperties(HotSpotVirtualMachine.java:138)
at com.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.main(xxx.java:65)
I am running with Java6u13.
What should I do to continue the investigation ?
By the way, is it the correct forum for this issue ?
Thanks in advance

Internal error: exception thrown from the servlet service function (uri=/login))

I have done an install of iPlanet Portal Server on a Solaris 8 machine and when I try to access the main Page I get:

Suggestions? I have sucessfully installed IPS before, but I cannot figure out the cause of this error.
Mike
Actually it seems to be a result of the infamous iPS bug where if you install the Portal Server in a directory that exceeds 15 characters, iPS results in an error. Is that fixed in some version? And, how does that even mange to occur? That "bug" is so Microsoft.
Looks like a patch conflict ..
Check /var/sadm/patch and see
if this patch 108875-07 is present, if you have a later patch than that then you might run into the above problem ..

Portal Breaks

I have iPs 3.0 sp2 on a Solaris 8 box. Sometime after installation, the time
varies, the portal stops responding. The "no such domain" error comes up and
this error appears in the web server log:
failure (16802) : Internal error: exception thrown from servlet
service function (uri=/login) : java.lang.NullPointerException, Stack:
java.lang.NullPointerException
at java.util.ResourceBundle.getString(Compiled Code)

28)
at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(Compiled Code)
at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(Compiled Code)
at com.netscape.server.http.servlet.NSServletRunner.Service(Compiled
Code)
iPs has been re-installed a few times, and so has the OS, but with the same
thing happening in a few hours or days. There has been no consistent change
that coincides with it's demise. The OS has been installed with and without
the recommended patches. Has anyone experienced anything similar?
Thanks
The primary reason for seeing the "No Such Domain" issues tend to be related to the Domain URL Mapping list which is present under Manage Domains > Domain > Authentication. Check if the Defaultdomain name is same as the one in /etc/opt/SUNWips/platform.conf. If this is okay then try restarting the server and gateway since they may not be in sync with eachother.

(it is in open portal mode, with web, profile and directory server on a

Thanks,

We are observing similar symptoms, and the IPS tech support doesn't have a clue. Like you, the patches were correctly installed. We've tried to get more debug information by setting
ips.debug=message
or
ips.debug=on
The latter dumps a bunch of information, alas no resolution. We are ruuning this on Solaris 2.8 - I wonder if what others are running their IPS on ?
We have tried the same as "open portal", as well as the "gateway" install, only to find the same problems.
Anyways we see the following error :

Arnaud,
I forwarded your message to the iPS development alias. Here's one reply
I received.
Charles

Charles,
Could be due to system not being updated with Solaris patches.
